Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a WHO-approved therapeutic approach that helps reduce posttraumatic stress. It assists in letting go of distressing thoughts and feelings associated with traumatic experiences as well as in increasing positive emotions of calm and confidence.
During EMDR therapy the client attends to emotionally disturbing material while simultaneously focusing on clinician-directed bilateral stimulation (eye movements, auditory, or tactile). EMDR therapy facilitates the accessing of the traumatic memory network so that information processing is enhanced, with new associations formed between the traumatic memory and more adaptive memories or information. These new associations are thought to result in complete information processing, new learning, elimination of emotional distress, and development of insights.
EMDR is effective for children, adolescents, and young people with:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Phobias and panic disorder
- Anxiety and Depression related to any psychological trauma.
- Excessive grief due to the loss of loved ones
- Trauma (due to accident, assault, natural disaster, etc.)
- Sexual assault
- Somatoform disorders (Body dysmorphic disorder)
- Personality disorders
The Emotional Freedom Technique, commonly abbreviated as EFT, is an evidence-based trauma-informed approach. It uses principles from Energy Psychology and combines elements from different psychotherapy approaches to resolve traumatic events for individuals. It takes knowledge from the West as well as the East to provide therapeutic interventions to clients in their journey of mental health. Psychologists in our team are Internationally Certified EFT practitioners, they are constantly under the supervision of one of the only 5 trainers with EFTMRA currently in India, providing quality care to their clients.
Professionals in the field of mental health learn this approach to upgrade their skill set and have a trauma-informed approach to working with and catering to the diverse concerns of the clients. Appropriate for all age groups, EFT has been clinically proven effective for depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other clinical disorders as well. Further, EFT also shows effective results to work with fears, phobias, abuse, addictions, cravings, painful past memories, emotional overwhelm, grief, panic, physical pain and so on and so forth. Unlike many other approaches, EFT is widely used as a self-help tool as well.
When using EFT as a therapy modality by the professionals, only after a couple of sessions, the clients share experiencing a relief they have never felt before, are able to move beyond the stuckness they were experiencing prior, and able to enhance their productivity along with living an emotionally healthier life. Clients are able to work through their past painful memories in the safe space experienced by them in the presence of our professionals, and are able to feel supported in the journey. They usually share feeling more relaxed, calm, happy, and hopeful after their sessions with our Psychologists trained in Emotional Freedom Technique!
